The Millennia for Change Initiative
specializes in cultivating positive imagery both internally and
externally with emphasis on fostering self love and creative artistry.
A percentage of the sales of the current CD,
The
Beginning, will be used to fund a grass roots campaign too literally
“reach one teach one” as it pertains to our youth. Providing
creative arts through music and other services we will use these
things as a tool for developing self expression and as a way to
build self esteem in them. There are many young minds at risk to
violence and drugs. We wish to tip the scale and add balance and
harmony through creative expression mentorship and education.
Millennia for Change Initiative mission is to
not only use hip-hop as a form of artistic and cultural expression,
but to promote positive images within the rap
community, to encourage activism and to inspire young people to
transform their creativity into a powerful tool to benefit themselves
personally and their world. Millennia for Change Initiative
will address its mission by providing : 1) artistic development
through its cipher workshops and performance and recording opportunities
where participants acquire discipline, presentation and critical
thinking skills; 2) leadership training to prepare hip-hop artists
to function as educators; 3) encouraging social activism and community
responsibility through things like the “End of Silence”
Cipher where each artists had to improvise on topics related to
ending violence against women; and 4) a range of educational activities
that expose students and the public to the artistry, meaning,
and cultural background of hip-hop.
Millions of records sell every year demonstrating the power of
music, the size of the market and the desperate need for balance
in what’s being offered to listeners-- by working with a
host of community partners in the Greater Kansas City area, Millennia
for Change Initiative will provide a stage and
supportive environment for conceptual thinking and innovation
to raise standards for artists and audiences alike. There are
few creative outlets for young hip-hop artists and few places
in the streets that demand excellence, growth and confidence
from within. When one is confident
the need for excessive aggression decreases, reliance on expletives
reduces and creativity meets the brain. My experience has shown
that artistic mechanisms directing young people to focus on their
self-development empowers them to develop as artists that use
language and content in more creative and less stereotypical ways.
It also increases their social consciousness and sense
of community responsibility as hip-hop becomes the best
method of social changes for artists who may not feel at home
within the boundaries of traditional arts programs.
The sounds of our existence…the cadence of our lives….the
melodies of our hearts—all represented, enveloped, molded
and embodied in a myriad of musical expressions. Music touches
every facet of our lives, giving us hope in moments of despair,
ecstasy in moments of passion, victory in struggle and courage
in conflict. It is not our plan to write, produce and perform
the next great musical on Broadway. It is our intent to provide
some of the most positive, conscious raising, hip-hop genre music
you’ll find just about anywhere. The magic of music—it
knows no boundaries…it erases them.
The objective is too simply provide the means for at-risk youth
to have access to top-notch professional musical engineers that
will assist in the creation, production, and distribution of their
musical offerings from beginning to end. And to provide altruistic
assistance with marketing through the digital satellite networks,
Internet access and traditional avenues of production and distribution,
as well as live performance,. This will be done in specific ways
to achieve specific results, project by project.
